Clinical skills is only introduced as a core subject in the system blocks where medical students are guided to perform history taking on patients with the suitable format to assess and diagnose their conditions correctly. Besides history taking, during the hematology and immunology block, we learned the proper way of drug administrations through the peripheral route such as IM injection, IV injection and cannulation. Besides that, we were also taught on the techniques to draw blood from a patient for purposes of serum samples. As for the cardiovascular block, we were taught on how to perform history taking upon a patient who is suffering from heart complications. Besides that, we were also introduced to the four basic steps of consultation which are inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation (with the use of microscope). Palpation is done mainly for feeling the area of tenderness on the surface of the body. As for auscultation, abnormalities in the heart sound are identified in diagnosing a patient with a particular disorder. Besides that, the aseptic technique of hand washing and gloving was also taught and these should be carried out prior to performing a surgery. The last topic to be introduced in this block is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) which is typically used to revive an unconscious patient. The correct techniques in performing CPR were taught and it is useful for reviving a patient while waiting for emergency help.
