Annual Dinner 2014
Our batch which is batch 6 had been assigned earlier this year to organize the Annual Dinner for the School of Medicine. The chairman of the organizer, Ahmad Aqrabin Shah had been given the responsibility to organize the event from scratch. It was a lot of work but we managed to work our way through it with the help and cooperation from our whole batch. First, committee members were elected to take charge of the event consisting of about 6 people. Later, our classmates were assigned into different groups in charge of different work such as the decorating committee, the MC team, the performers and the ushers. I was assigned into the MC team where I was in charge of the slides presentation for that night. There were many changes in the date of the annual dinner because considerations were made for our fellow seniors who were having their professional examinations as well as those who are moving to Hospital Sungai Buloh. After much consideration, we had finalized the date of the Annual Dinner on 16th October 2014 which is to be held in The Grand Hall.
Days before the event, we stayed back until late night to complete the final preparations for the dinner. I helped out with the decorating committee by setting up the decorations such as the flowers, arranging the table numbers and preparing the corsages to be worn that night.
On the day of the event, the decorating committee came in the morning to start setting up the decorations at the venue.
I reached the Grand Hall around five in the evening to start setting up the sound systems. The emcees, Hazim and Mellisa run by their scripts with us and we started our rehearsal by 6.30 pm. Initially, we encountered some problems with the sound system but we managed to correct them.
The night went on without a hitch and all of us enjoyed our time. I am glad that the night went by smoothly and we owe it to the cooperation from everyone behind the scenes who had worked hard to ensure that the dinner was a success.
Each batch carried out their performances and our batch was represented by Sandra Chong who sang on the stage. She gave a splendid performance and everyone was entertained.
Before ending the amazing night, each batch took a group photo with all our lecturers and later on, the committee members stayed back to clean up. It would not have been such a success without the help of everyone involved and I am glad that everybody had fun that night. It was really a good experience for me because this is my first time organising such an event in Medical School. I have learned many values whilst preparing for this event especially the importance of teamwork in ensuring that the dinner was a huge success.
